Copenhagen Cycle Chic began its bloglife back in June 2007 when jouranlist, film director and photographer Mikael Colville-Andersen decided to put a growing number of photos about Copenhagen’s bicycle culture into one place on the internet.

“L’EROICA”
L’ Associazione “Eroica Ciclismo d’Epoca” organizza “L’EROICA”, cicloturistica d’ epoca su strade prevalentemente sterrate. E’ una manifestazione speciale, da ogni punto di vista. Ripropone ambienti e scenografie del ciclismo anteguerra, polvere o fango, nessuna assistenza tecnica, ristori d’ epoca, strade stupende quanto difficili, grande spirito di sacrificio e d’ adattamento.“L’EROICA” is a period cyclotouristic rally, first organized in 1997, held mainly on gravel roads. It is a special “race” from every point of view. It provides a course of awe-inspiring surroundings and scenes from the “heroic” times of cycling: dust or mud, no organized service, vintage refreshments, wonderful and demanding roads, great ability to adapt and to suffer.
We search for the authentic roots of the awesome popularity of that cycling world made by the giants of the roads, which created so much literary legends.

The cyclists of Ferrara have a style of riding all their own. One hand goes on the handle; the other holds shopping bags, a briefcase, an open umbrella or a lit cigarette. If you don’t have any of these items, simply put that spare hand in your pocket. This is a town where velocity is not a priority.There is a reason for this unique cycling technique: if Ferrara’s cyclists rode like its streets were one giant BMX track, the hospitals wouldn’t be able to cope.
Ferrara’s 135,000 residents own a total of 160,000 bikes.
Bicycle helmets are optional. No, scratch that: they’re non-existent. Nobody here owns one.

“Nuovo Codice della Strada”
Nessun problema di inquinamento, minimo ingombro, manovrabilità estrema, rumore (campanello escluso) quasi insistente. Le biciclette a pedalata assistita, chiamate per comodità di linguaggio Biciclette Elettriche, rappresentano certamente il mezzo ideale per muoversi e da quest’anno ci sono contributi comunali per il loro acquisto. In Italia poi sembrano inventate apposta per dare speranza a chi ormai al traffico e all’inquinamento si era rassegnato.La bicicletta elettrica è destinata a rivoluzionare il futuro della propulsione, soprattutto nei centri urbani; riduce drasticamente sforzo e fatica e contribuisce a combattere l’inquinamento atmosferico, fonte certa di danni per la salute. Come detto il suo funzionamento è semplicissimo: l’elettronica controlla il movimento dei pedali che ad una lieve pressione inviano il segnale al motore elettrico portandovi senza sforzo alla velocità di crociera voluta. Azionando i freni, o smettendo di pedalare si arresta il motore. La bicicletta a pedalata assistita non paga la tassa di circolazione, si guida come una normale bicicletta e non necessità del casco di protezione, anche se lo consigliamo vivamente. Oggi molte regioni italiane propongono di incentivare l’uso di mezzi di trasporto “ecologici”, e fra queste la Regione Veneto che ha assegnato, a favore del Comune di Ponzano Veneto, la somma di € 1.500 per promuovere l’acquisto di biciclette a pedalata assistita senza ausilio di acceleratore, che devono essere conformi alle normative CE e a quanto previsto dal “Nuovo Codice della Strada”.
L’iniziativa è finalizzata a ridurre le emissioni derivanti da traffico veicolare e, conseguentemente, al miglioramento della qualità dell’aria con la promozione di un più diffuso impiego di mezzi alternativi non inquinanti. L’Amministrazione comunale l’ha pubblicizzata dall’8 luglio (data di pubblicazione del bando) e le domande sono state raccolte fino a tutto il mese di settembre. L’importo dell’incentivo è di € 250 massimo per l’acquisto di un solo mezzo per famiglia (che deve essere residente nel Comune) e comunque non può superare il 50% del costo.

The Strida 5.0 – an Urban 2.0 mode of transportation is probably most portable of wheels for city get about. It weighs 10 kilograms and has a collapsible triangular frame. The Strida is long and narrow, and carries like a photographer’s tripod (I can fold it while running down the platform at Grand Central). The Plus Bike
Italian desginers Fabio Bortolani and Ermanno Righi of the Dovetusai studio in Milano have designed a radical two-frame über urban bike. It has the look of a old bike from the early 1900’s but with a modern touch. The top tube has a built-in light for late night urban riding. No indication if it’s in production or whether it ever will be.We all want one to be sure!

In Beijing alone, there are 1,000 new cars on the streets every day.As a result, bicycles are increasingly being squeezed to the margins. The streets are choked with traffic and automobile fumes. New roads are sometimes built without any bike lanes. Hundreds of bicyclists are killed in collisions with cars every year.

A study published in 2005 reports on older Italian cyclists who, despite their ages, maintain extraordinary activity levels. The study explores “the physical and mental health effects of intensive exercise in older people…and the cultural and social features that support and promote bicycling in Italy.”

Exercise-generated brainpower is conducive to philosophy and the soul. Cycling in nature provides the sensory impetus. The smells of the area may awaken long-lost memories that can add fuel to thought. Sounds of bugs, birds, and large hairy woodland creatures (whoa!) spark the development of more thought. On a bicycle you can experience every pothole on the trail and every daisy by the roadside. On every ride there is a cacophony of sensory input to spark those new brain cells. Thinking is like an adventure holiday. All you have to do is pedal.

Here’s a tip for riding in the winter months:Dress in layers. Multiple layers will help trap heat to your body and help maintain a steady body core temperature. You’ll want a windproof outer layer, a warm fleece type middle layer to trap your body heat, and a wicking bottom layer. You want the bottom layer to be next to your skin so that it can pull your perspiration away from your body to keep you dry. Keeping the body dry will prevent you from getting a deep chill that you can’t shake.

Scrive achab: « E’ la bici che Filippo Zanazzi ha creato per me. Oggi l’ho ritirata, dopo essermi munito di Kriptonyte e ho scorrazzato per il traffico cittadino come un coyote selvaggio.» Il nome “achab”, gliel’ho dato io, deriva dal mondo dei byke messengers, per i quali “moby”, come la balena bianca che achab inseguiva, sono tutti i mezzi lenti e ingombranti, autobus, camioncini, attraverso i quali la bici schizza rapida eagile più di ogni altro mezzo. Insomma, una bici che arpiona la città. Ruota anteriore rigorosamente 26, posteriore 28. Come Bootleg comanda. Copertoni vittoria e ritchei (come quelli che avevi tu sulla bootleg), telaio nero, manubrio e sellino rossi. 24 velocità, moltiplica color metallo. Aspetto: meravigliosa!Se vuoi vederla, possiamo incontrarci… magari anche un giovedì a critcal mass. Ora bisogna aiutare Zanazzi a pubblicizzarla per bene, perché per me è una bomba questa bici.
Sto leggendo infatti Culley e lo zen ho capito che non è l’arte della manutenzione della motocilcetta, ma in quella della bicicletta. Lì c‘è lo zen. La bici da messenger in città è una TAZ come poche ce ne sono. Ti fa sentire bene. Altro che Smart.
